DPWH Turns Over New Dorms at QMC for Healthcare Workers

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned-over on Thursday, August 20, 2020 to the local government of Quezon City two (2) additional cluster dormitories inside Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC) as temporary staying place of medical personnel.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the accommodation facilities set-up by DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of National and Local Health Facilities will ensure safety and efficiency in the delivery of services of our healthcare workers.

The management and operation of Clusters 5 and 6 ‘We Heal As One’ Off-Site Dormitory which will provide better lodging for the modern heroes was formally turned over to the Quezon City government after it was inspected by National Action Plan Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr. together with DPWH Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Undersecretary Sadain, head of the DPWH Task Force formed by Secretary Villar said that the two (2) cluster dormitories good for 64 medical doctors and staff are in addition to the previously completed four (4) dormitories with total capacity of 128 people turned-over by DPWH on July 7.

Each purpose-built cluster dormitory has 16 air-conditioned rooms equipped with double-decker beds to accommodate two (2) persons with toilet and bath with heater.

The dormitory has living room, complete with TV and sofa, common dining and a separate area for laundry and kitchen with available appliances.

The temporary shelter for the frontliners will also guarantee that enough medical professionals to safely care for patients are just around the vicinity of major hospitals in Quezon City, added Undersecretary Sadain.

Healthcare workers from National Kidney Transplant Institute (NKTI), East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC), Philippine Heart Center (PHC), and Children’s Hospital have availed the earlier completed four (4) dorms at QMC.
